Colour Theory 'The Cornish Edit'

with Tinge Floral

Monday 11 June - Wednesday 13 June 2018

We are delighted to be welcoming back Ashley of Tinge Floral and even more excited that she will be bringing her amazing Colour Theory class to the UK!  We will be working collaboratively to impart our knowledge of colour and working with the best seasonal ingredients.

During this residential workshop you will learn how to create wild, romantic florals for weddings and events, delve deep into the world of colour and how to translate this for your clients, build relationships with other vendors, social media and much more.  The workshop is open to 8 students and includes a two night stay, all materials, photos of your work, welcome drinks and all meals.

Course Location - Botelet Farm, Cornwall, UK

The course will be held on the beautiful family farm of the Tamblyn's.   Tia will host our event - providing us with seasonal vegetarian meals from the farm kitchen.  The farm is set in a stunning location and boasts its own Hill Fort!

During our two day workshop we will be focusing on a bridal hand tied bouquet and a table centre piece.  We will both be demonstrating our signature styled bouquets using the best seasonal produce.  By demonstrating different approaches to bouquet construction, this class will allow you to develop your skills and techniques enhancing your own personal style.  You will have an insight into how we each plan colour palettes and we will impart a deeper understanding of colour theory.  The table centres will be created in our beautiful bespoke Leach pottery bowls which is our gift to you.  Creating a centre piece that has movement and an airiness in design is a hallmark of Ashley's arrangements.  Added to these practicals we will be demonstrating and asking you to help in a hanging installation piece.  Installation work has become so popular in our industry and getting to grips with the mechanics and tricks of the trade is essential for a smooth install on event day.  Expect to leave your two days with us with new techniques, a deeper understanding of colour theory and form and the confidence to take your business to the next level.

We are delighted that Taylor & Porter will be joining us again and capturing our students work over the course and providing them with beautiful, dreamy portfolio images.   Specialising in creating editorial, branding and portrait photography, Taylor & Porter photographs have a characteristic gracefulness with a focus on the finest craftsmanship and attention to detail; using medium format film stills to create work that is radiant and full of narrative intrigue.

Guest Speaker

The Pursuit of Natural Colour

We are delighted to welcome Sian of Lancaster & Cornish as a guest speaker.  Sian has a strong family heritage in the textile industry.  From her Great-Grandparents cotton weaving in the Lancashire Mills of north-west England, to her Grandfather trading with merchants from around the globe in the first part of the 20th century, textiles are in the blood. Inspired by travels in India and Mexico, Sian takes forward her heritage with Lancaster & Cornish, combining a passion for colour and textiles with her own ethical twist.

Her work follows centuries of artisans all in pursuit of the same thing – the desire to harvest colour from nature. Sian works from her Cornwall studio with silks, organic cottons and bamboo silks to produce artisan naturally-dyed and hand-made silks using plant based dyes.  As well as talking about her work, Sian will explore colorimetrics - the science and technology used to quantify and describe human colour perception.
