Nancarrow Wedding - Late September Wedding

The end of the growing season is always rather special to me. Nothing needs to be held back anymore, nothing saved, it is a real feeling of embracing every last stem that the garden has offered you. The magic of an autumn wedding is made even more special when the couple embraces the ingredients before them. Olivia and Alfred wanted the flowers to reflect the time of year, but also the place in which they were getting married.

So much of Nancarrow oozes the craftsmanship of sympathetic renovation. Once large drafty barns are now warm shelters for wedding parties. The oak that has been used to renovate Nancarrow seems to come alive for me in Autumn when the light is lower in the sky and all around a golden glow filters through large trees hugging the courtyard.

Bringing the drama of the foliage from outside into the wedding space was really important for my couple. There didn’t need to be too many flowers in the ceremony installation as the importance was to represent the natural styling of the Rusty Old Barn. Instead, intricate floral arrangements were created for the feasting tables, where they could be looked at in detail and appreciated over dinner.

Huge thanks to Olivia & Alfred for trusting my vision and of course John Hersey for creating beautiful lasting memories through his images.

Quote from Olivia

"Flowers were such an important element of our day and we didn't want to confirm anything until we knew Becca was free for the dates offered by our venue - even if it meant postponing! "Becca was so brilliant to work with - her vision on the day was what really made our wedding, her use of colour and textures perfectly captured what we had imagined. She also was incredibly patient as our list of demands as we got closer to the day kept increasing!" My bouquet was absolutely stunning - I've had compliments from people I don't even know to say that they think it is the most beautiful wedding bouquet they've seen. And all of the installation pieces enhanced Nancarrow's beautiful buildings perfectly. Becca brought the whole day together and we are so grateful she agreed to do our wedding. We are just sad that we can't work with her all over again!"

The Bridal Party Flowers

Using a copper colour palette to create elegant bridal party flowers was really important to the overall design of this wedding. Olivia’s bouquet gathered all the premium elements from the overall floral design. From Liquid Amber foliage to Koko Loko Roses the bouquet remained light to carry and delicate to reflect her frame. The bouquets were finished with ribbons which complimented the colour tones.

The Ceremony

Bringing the countryside into the Rusty Old Barn and creating and impactful installation was key to the overall design of the ceremony space. Towering branches that framed the doorway bridged the gap from countryside to indoor space. Staggered with a low urn for more delicate pieces and adding a three dimensional installation, this design has become a firm favourite for my Nancarrow clients.

The registry table we dressed with a simple vase arrangement in earthy tones, ensuring the scale was not too big for this intimate moment.

With both creations, elements from the arrangements were relocated to the main feasting barn making the most of the floral designs.

The Reception

On long feasting tables we used a mix of ceramic pottery to dress the tables with autumnal tones. Low bowls held variety dahlias and heady scent of flowering mint for foliage. Grasses were worked through the design to create movement. Spaced between bigger arrangements were simple, delicate bud vases of myrtle or airy pieces of Japanese Anemone. The collection all brought together with seasonal tones and bear wood tables.

Behind the top table and framing the doorway we created our second installation piece. Drawing from the design in the Rusty Old Barn this arrangement was flooded with light from behind which illuminated the fiery foliage. In using the design in this location, rather than the beams, your eye was constantly drawn to this space which framed the wedding couple.

Chasing the Light

Looking back at these images you really get a sense that Olivia & Alfred chose to work with their surrounding to incorporate all the elements around Nancarrow into their wedding.

It was the creative eye of John Hersey that took Olivia & Alfred away quietly and followed the light around Nancarrow to capture their couple shots. I think this is so special and I hope this may have inspired you for your wedding plans.
