Boconnoc Wedding for Lottie & Anthony - May

During one of the hottest, driest springs on record, late May / June 2023 has seen one of my busiest times for me and my garden since I started my business over 12 years ago! Keeping the garden hydrated in the busy season is always a challenge but this spring has been the hardest yet! For my couples however, it has meant long warm days and the promise of outdoor ceremonies with drinks and canapés on the lawn…perfect.

Lottie and Anthony chose their wedding to take place in the cool of the church at Boconnoc and I could not have been happier - it is always a challenge to install flowers in direct sunlight so this was very much a welcomed relief to me.

The grounds of Boconnoc looked incredible. Spring is such a great time to get married in Cornwall and Boconnoc’s grand Rhododendrons and Azaleas burst into colour. However, nothing for me beats the timing of the wisteria in full bloom. Have a look down to see the beautiful images that Deb’s Aleaxander has captured.

Huge thanks to the team involved in this wedding and of course to Lottie and Anthony for allowing me to share their beautiful day with you.

Bridal Party Flowers

Lottie’s bridal party flowers were kept light and seasonal. Lottie wanted a timeless, classical design that blended with the champagne tones of her bridesmaid dresses.

Her bouquet was filled with beautifully scented roses, sweet rocket, stocks, corncockle, Icelandic poppies and a little hebe foliage to create a structure. The bouquet was finished with Taupe gold Lancaster & Cornish ribbon.

I created a little floral heart wand for Lottie’s flower girl and this was finished with ribbons.

Ceremony Flowers

I created one large statement urn for the front of the church. This created impact and a focal point at the end of the aisle. The urn was filled with blush tones of roses, peonies and foxgloves. Cow parsley and sweet rocket created a frothy design.

At the back of the church on the font sat a low urn arrangement. Filled with roses, stocks, ammi and lots of little garden jewels - this arrangement was filled with so much variety.

Reception Flowers

Lottie and Anthony chose a long table design which works so well in the Garden Room at Boconnoc. White linen was laid with pretty blush napkins. I created a table scape of florals that meandered down the table. Ranging from larger low bowls to the beakers and then the little pottery bud vases - creating an eclectic design.

Tall tapered candles in light blush tones were used down the tables to create some elegant height. The overall design was classical and timeless.

Repurposing Flowers

One of the big things I encourage is repurposing your flowers throughout your event. I was delighted to be able to share with you these images so you can see how effective it can be to move the flowers down from the church to the house!

The large urn was placed in the entrance hall which was a wonderful display to meet the the guests on their arrival in to the house.

The low urn at the back of the church was moved to the mantlepiece in the main Drawing Room and the bridesmaids were placed back in the kilner jars that I delivered them in and put on the cake table.

I would encourage all my couples to look at ways to maximise their flowers and more than happy to provide suggestions on how this can be achieved!
