Boconnoc Wedding for Emily & George - September

Emily and George married in September in beautiful autumn sunshine.

Emily wanted her flowers to be loose and natural with an organic style. September is always such an amazing month for British flowers as the roses are often in their second flush and they can be teamed with dahlias and zinnia and not forgetting oodles of annuals. Foliage and installation work becomes more robust in autumn as the tree sap has finished rising and all the new growth has hardened off. Take a look further down for Emily’s epic floral arch outside the church - it was rather special.

Huge thanks to Ben Wigglesworth for capturing so many stunning images and allowing us to share them.

Emily wanted a real garden bouquet with lots of green foliage to balance creams and soft blush pink tones. Her bouquet featured some of the first of the chrysanthemum's, zinnias, roses and dahlias. The blush was kept minimal and to smaller variety florals in the bouquet. Emily’s bridesmaids carried more cream to balance their dresses.

Ceremony Flowers

Boconnoc’s church doesn’t really lend itself to a traditional floral arch. The reason being that the doorway is approached from a long walk up the side of the church so by the time you are at the door you don’t have much space to stand back and admire it (there is a stone wall and long drop in front of the church!). Emily had her heart set on an arch so I went about design an installation that would work on the approach to the church and from an angle. Which the arch tapered out at the top it was full and curved at the base, creating a beautiful sweep into the entrance.

Inside the church we kept to a very simple large urn that created a focal point at the front of the church. This arrangement was repurposed down to the house after the ceremony.

Reception Flowers

I remember asking Emily as she married so early in September, are you a ‘hanging onto summer’ or a ‘lets get warm and put the fire on’ girl as in September it is really easy to go either way with floral styling. Like, beachy tones or bringing in some autumnal vibes…. Emily said she was a ‘hanging onto summer’ girl and you can really see this with the design she went for on her tables. I loved the natural place mats and coloured water glasses.

Emily went with low bowls filled with more blush tones as the linen and other items on the table were natural and we dotted lots of bud vases in between to loosen the design. Emily brought a beautiful mix of coloured candles which tied the whole table scheme in so well.
